Team NetApp finishes day two of the Giro d'Italia with two riders in the top 15

In the second stage of the Giro d'Italia two of NetApp's riders sprinted into the top 15. After 206 kilometers, Timon Seubert and Matthias Brändle crossed the finish line in Herning in 11th and 14th place. Sprinter Daniel Schorn suffered a defect 4.5 kilometers before the finish line, thus eliminating him from a top finish. Mark Cavendish (Team Sky) was the day's victor, while Matthew Goss (Orica GreenEdge) and Geoffrey Soupe (FDJ-Big Mat) finished in second and third place. Taylor Phinney (BMC) continues to hold the lead in the general classification.
"Up until the finishing stretch everything went according to plan. We wanted to focus on larger breakaway groups. In the end the peloton fell behind a three-man lead group, but that posed no danger. After catching up to the breakaway riders, we prepared the sprint for Daniel Schorn. Unfortunately he had a defect. That kind of thing can happen, but it is naturally upsetting. Timon Seubert and Matthias Brändle did their best in the final stretch, but Daniel certainly could have gotten more out of it," said Sport Director Enrico Poitschke, commenting on the race.
Tomorrow's third stage will take the peloton 190 kilometers through the eastern part of Jutland. The race will start and finish in Horsens. The route consists of three circuits – one lap around the first two and three laps around the third. "Tomorrow a fast final stretch awaits us – the 14.6-kilometer final lap goes through the city on wide roads," Poitschke said.
