Team NetApp out of sprinting luck in second section of World Ports Classic

The second and final stage of the World Ports Classic covered 163 km from Antwerp to Rotterdam. As expected, the completely flat race was decided in a mass sprint. Theo Bos (Rabobank) prevailed in front of Andre Greipel (Lotto Belisol) and Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma Quick Step). Andre Schulze passed the finish in 52nd place as the best Team NetApp rider.
With his third place finish, Boonen also secured the overall ranking in the first edition of the race. Blaz Jarc finished the two-day race in 28th place as best Team NetApp rider.
The race was dominated by a three-man breakaway group, which was able to separate itself from the field about 40 km after the start. However, the sprinter teams controlled the race and caught up with the trio about 10 km from the finish.
“The wind played less of a role than yesterday and we were able to conserve our energy in the field. But the finale was then once again extremely fast and we noticed that the day before had taken its toll on us after all. Today we just didn’t have the legs to sprint at the front,” explained Enrico Poitschke, Sporting Director of Team NetApp.
Line-Up:
Daniel Schorn, Andre Schulze, Blaz Jarc, Michael Schwarzmann, Markus Eichler, Cesare Benedetti, Andreas Schillinger
