Leo König’s form improving in Bavaria

Team News | 26.05.2012

Leopold König reached position 22 as the best rider in the Team NetApp  during the individual time trial in the Bayern Rundfahrt in Feuchtwangen. Michael Rogers (Sky) was the fastest over the 26.4 kilometer course, with a time of 31:14.77. His teammates Richie Porte and Jerome Coppel (Saur-Sojasun) came in second and third. Rogers is therefore still the overall leader, ahead of Coppel and Vladimir Gusev (Katusha). In 19th place, Leo König is the best-placed NetApp rider in the overall standings.

“It was no easy time trial today, and a hilly terrain and strong wind made it even more demanding”, explained Sport Director Enrico Poitschke. “Unfortunately, Leo had some minor technical difficulties to deal with; otherwise, his result would definitely have been better. However, his result shows that his back problems are getting better. It was a step in the right direction, and we hope that he will soon regain his top form,” said Poitschke optimistically.

The last stage of the Bayern Rundfahrt will take place tomorrow over a 167.8 kilometer route between Feuchtwangen and Bamberg.  The riders can expect a few smaller mountains before tackling two 9.4 kilometer circuits around Bamberg to finish the race. “We are expecting a mass sprint despite the mountains, and think it could be another good day for André Schulze,” explained the Sport Director.
