Jan Barta (27) from Team NetApp has secured himself the title of national champion in the individual time trial. On the 39-km long and predominantly flat course in the Slovakian district of Puchov, Barta clearly asserted himself against Zdenek Stybar and Frantisek Rabon (both Omega Pharma – Quick Step). As early as the first intermediate time Barta had a lead of 25 seconds, which he was able to maintain until the finish.

After coming in second place the two previous years, Barta underscored his persuasive form by winning this year's national championship. In the spring he had already won the time trial at the Italian tour Coppi e Bartali.

"A dream has come true for me. Everything went perfectly today. On the third attempt I finally managed to pull off the win. I am really happy and proud to wear the champion jersey of my home country at the upcoming Tour of Austria,” Jan Barta said after reaching the finish line.
