Daniel Schorn sees to top placement in Frankfurt

At this year's 51st running of "Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt", Daniel Sporn sprinted to eight place, thus providing Team NetApp with a good result in this traditional German race. Moreno Moser and Dominik Nerz clenched a double victory for Liquigas-Cannondale, while Sergey Firsanov (Team Rusvelo) took 3rd place.

"Today we tried from the very beginning to be in the mix in the important groups and not to let any larger group go," Sport Director Enrico Poitschke explained. After about 35 kilometers Reto Hollenstein finally managed to break away with five other riders. However, the peloton responded promptly and consistently held the advantage under three minutes. For a brief period the group grew to 15 riders, with Cesare Benedetti also among them. But shortly before going over the Mammolshain for the second time at kilometer 150, the attack was over.

The crucial four-man group of the day finally found itself 27 kilometers before the finish line. Team NetApp was still represented with four riders in the 35-man chasing group. "Of course the team tried to close the gap, but no other team kept pace. It was only in the final rounds in downtown Frankfurt that others began their chase, but the breakaway riders were able to keep their lead," said Poitschke. The Sport Director's bottom line: "The team worked well and eighth place for Daniel is a good performance. Everyone proved that they are in good form in looking ahead to the Giro."
